FAQ

What is the minimum order quantity?

The minimum amount that may be ordered is one hide. A small order up-charge may apply to orders of 4 hides or less.

What amount of overage should be expected?

Overage will be kept to 10% or less if possible; however, Moore & Giles does not cut hides. Therefore, overage will sometimes exceed 10%, particularly if the ordered quantity is small.

Does leather come in rolls?

No.
Moore & Giles sells 100% leather which comes in hides of varying sizes.

How do I convert yards to square feet?

Eighteen square feet of leather are the equivalent of one yard of fabric. Multiply the number of yards required by 18.

How do I convert meters to square feet?

There are 10.764 square feet per meter. Multiply the number of square meters by 10.764.

What is the typical yield, or, how much waste should be expected?

Leather will have a slightly higher waste than fabric; however, the yield and waste will depend upon the application. Please direct this question to your furniture manufacturer.

My sample doesn’t look like the one on this website. Why?

It may be that the calibration of your computer screen is causing the colors to be displayed incorrectly. Or, it may be the result of dye lot variation. Also, variation in texture can be found throughout the hide of some leathers, resulting in large grain near the edge and smaller grain in the center. A sample should never be considered an exact snapshot of the entire hide.

How long will it take for my order to be processed?

If the leather is in stock, the order will be processed in 2-5 business days, depending on the complexity of the order and the volume of orders being processed at that time.

What methods of payment do you accept?

Moore & Giles accepts check and wire transfer payments, as well as check-by-phone and Visa, Mastercard and Discover credit card payments.

Lead times for new production and custom colors

Lead time for new production and shipping from the time the order is placed to the time we receive the product is 8-10 weeks for most tanneries. We can create custom colors of any of our articles, but Napa Silk, Kipling, and Satin Suede are all available in small quantities with a small up-charge. All other leathers have a minimum order quantity of 2,500 square feet. For all custom color orders, we ask that the customer provide a swatch for us to match. Please allow two to three weeks for a custom order sample or ‘strike off’. A ‘strike off’ is similar to a CFA. Generally, the strike off is approximately 8×10. Once approved by the customer, lead time for production is 4-6 weeks.

Does Moore & Giles offer a warranty on the leather?

Moore & Giles leathers are produced from the finest European hides. Our leathers are dyed in vats of water soluble aniline dyes that fully penetrate the hide. They are then dressed with waxes, oils and other tanning ingredients to help showcase the leather and enhance its natural appeal for added depth and character. Moore & Giles leathers are designed to age gracefully with time being an ally and not an enemy, wearing in, not wearing out.

Color variation, pull-up effects and natural markings such as healed scars and fat wrinkles are a signature of the authenticity of natural leather. These should be viewed as organic features of the product- not defects. Each hide will absorb dye differently, both within the hide and from hide to hide, making each piece unique. Sunlight will naturally fade leather over time; if furniture is located in an area exposed to heavy direct sunlight, take proactive measures to reduce the exposure.

Moore & Giles leather is guaranteed under normal indoor conditions and warranted against manufacturing and material defects for 12 years and as long as the product remains in the original upholstery. We do not warrant against normal wear and tear or damage resulting from abuse, misuse, rental use, pets, extreme temperatures, exposure to sunlight, excessive soiling, chemical treatments, accidents or improper storage. In addition, this warranty does not cover fading or stains from spills. We caution consumers against improper cleaning, application of chemical products or protective coatings and exposure to sunlight, bright lights or extreme heat or cold.
