Today, we are excited to launch two new offerings in our Olive Green portfolio of organically tanned leather. The two collections, Terra and Aspen, are crafted with Olivenleder wet-green® organic tanning agent made from pure olive extract.
Completely biodegradable and 100 percent natural, the wet-green® tanning extract is produced using fallen or pruned olive leaves generated during harvest. Today, 15 million tons of olives are harvested each year in Europe alone. Until now, the leaves of the olive tree have been burned after the harvest on the plantations. Now, this revolutionary process is enabling these leaves to be turned into a 100 percent sustainable tanning agent for the production of the finest leathers and for the protection of health and the environment.
Our Olive Green leathers are some of the most sustainable leathers available – from start to finish. wet-green® tanning extract is a highly awarded technology for achieving mineral-free tanning. It has received a Cradle-to-Cradle GOLD certification, SEA – Sustainable Entrepreneur Award and was the Launch Nordic winner in 2015.
The first of our Olive Green Leathers, Eden, a semi-aniline Olive Green offering, was launched in May 2016. Eden is an exquisite full grain semi-aniline leather designed on the finest selection of South German raw material. It offers rich uniform color, a soft, luxurious hand and a sophisticated matte finish.
Details on the new Olive Green offerings from Moore & Giles are as follows:
TERRA
Crafted in Spain, featuring a palette of bright and vivid colors, Terra is an aniline leather with a more natural aesthetic that showcases all of the inherent characteristics of the hides. After tanning, hides undergo a natural, open-air drying process and are then finished with natural oils with water-soluble lacquer bases. The end result is a vibrant leather with a soft, drapey hand and a stunning polished surface.
Terra Colors: Ruby, Deep Sea, Aegean, Palm, Lemon Grass, Cavern, Thicket, Cedar and Black Olive
ASPEN
Crafted in Germany from premium hides, Aspen is an award-winning wet-green® tanned leather from the HELLER-LEDER tannery in Germany. Marked by an exquisitely soft hand and beautiful pronounced grain, it is a pure aniline, heavier weight leather that exudes casual elegance. After tanning, hides are left in their natural, open-pored state and then finished using real beeswax. The end result is a leather with an expressive surface and velvety hand that will develop a striking patina with wear and with age.
Aspen Colors: Umber, Truffle, Onyx, and Acorn
Olive Green leathers are equally ideal for applications as Moore & Giles’ mineral-based tanned leathers—for furniture in residential & commercial/public areas, automotive, aviation, marine & luxury leather goods and shoes. These leathers are an innovative addition to Moore & Giles’ already extensive portfolio.
